A Team of Board-Certified Vascular & Endovascular Surgeons
Our multidisciplinary team—including Ralph Redd, MD; Dr. Richard Tan; and Dr. Irwin White-Gittens—delivers advanced, minimally invasive vascular care focused on limb preservation, stroke prevention, and lasting outcomes for our community.
Dr. Ralph Redd, MD
Dr. Ralph Redd is a board-certified Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon at Alabama Vascular Specialists, PC, with two decades of service to Montgomery and the surrounding region. He holds staff appointments across the Baptist Health system, Jackson Hospital, and Vaughan Regional Medical Center, and has served as Chief of Surgery at Baptist Medical Center South, where he also contributed on the medical executive committee, operating room advisory board, and quality committee. Because Alabama has one of the highest amputation rates in the country, Dr. Redd focuses on revascularizing the lower extremities in patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) to improve quality of life and reduce amputations. He is equally committed to decreasing disparities in vascular care for patients in rural and underserved urban communities.
Dr. Redd earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Georgia Tech and an M.D. from Emory University, followed by General Surgery residency at Carolinas Medical Center and a Vascular Surgery fellowship at St. Louis University.
Dr. Richard Tan, MD
Dr. Richard Tan grew up in Malaysia and graduated with honors from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He completed vascular surgery training at Northwell Health in New York, earning Intern of the Year in his first year and later Best Resident Teacher of the Year. Dr. Tan has written and presented at national and international meetings and contributed book chapters on dialysis access. His clinical expertise spans the full spectrum of vascular surgery, with strong emphasis on complex limb salvage, dialysis access, aortic surgery, cerebrovascular disease, and venous disease.
Dedicated to advancing patient care and surgical education, he combines meticulous technique with clear communication and compassionate follow-up, striving to improve outcomes for patients with any and all vascular conditions.
Dr. Irwin White-Gittens, MD
As a triple board-certified vascular surgeon in Montgomery, Alabama, Dr. Irwin White-Gittens offers deep expertise in both complex and routine vascular conditions. His background in critical care and general surgery helps him treat the whole patient, not just the disease. Over the last three years, he has shown a strong commitment to patient care, blending advanced surgical skill with an understanding of each person’s unique needs. Recently joining the AVS team, he primarily practices at Jackson Hospital. Dr. White-Gittens specializes in advanced procedures for aortic aneurysms, carotid artery disease, and peripheral arterial disease. Guided by a patient-first philosophy, he communicates transparently and builds personalized treatment plans.
Whether employing minimally invasive techniques or undertaking complex open surgery, he prioritizes safety, outcomes, and recovery, leveraging state-of-the-art technology and a record of successful results to provide a compassionate, reassuring experience.
